The duration and velocity of phases can vary
Depending on the circumstances, this motion can occur quickly. We might make the journey from Threshold to Mobilize in a ten-minute conversation with a stranger sitting next to us on an airline, a client sitting with us in the Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle at an apartment fire, or a teenager crying in her room after a humiliation at school. Mobilize serves as a catalyst for Transformation that can also occur at varying velocities.

In some circumstances, the passage from one phase to the next is slow and gradual. For example, supporting a friend whose child is dying or who faces a radical mastectomy requires a movement of endurance from Threshold to Transformation. Faced with significant disorder, the mind heals itself slowly, not in rabbit leaps and bounds.
