Maintain and protect confidentiality
When Friends open their minds and hearts to us, they trust us to keep the experience confidential. This trust places a great responsibility on us to respect Friends’ feelings and experiences. We must never reveal what they tell us in confidence unless our silence puts another person at risk. Gossip and betrayal destroy relationships.
Confidentiality is not something that has to be explicitly requested. Whatever Friends share is confidential. We must honor their trust in us by respecting their privacy.
If we have to use this information (as a Red Cross Case Manager, for example), we should tell Friends early in the conversation what we need to record and request permission to contact someone else on their behalf. |
