Our beliefs have physical effects
What we believe is true can have a physical effect. Heartache and heartbreak are related to deep beliefs. For example, my beloved child dies. I grieve over the loss and my shattered life. I become physically sick as my body spins out of control. Chronic fear causes tension that creates fatigue. Chronic anger raises my blood pressure.
The stress hormones that affect my body are triggered by my thoughts, my interpretations of what I experience.
Why is this important for us as helpers? In Stabilize, we bring Friends to the point where they can initiate a change in their thinking. If Friends shift from hopelessness to hope, for example, that adjustment in thinking will cause a shift in physical experience. They begin to heal. In Mobilize, we put hope to work.
