Unlike self-esteem, self-respect distinguishes between these divergent
paths. The preschooler who tears down the tower built by another
child may laugh with glee and feel quite happy with himself
for the power to create misery. But there is no self-respect
in that choice.
Can you think of other circumstances in which
a person’s “self-esteem” is high but “self-respect” is
low? Record your examples in your journal.
