We act consistently with our beliefs
First, we act consistently with our beliefs, inviting others to respond to us as though they are true. If, for example, I believe I am stupid, then I act "stupid." How could I do otherwise if I believe this is "true"? When I act stupid, others respond to me as though I actually am stupid. My belief sets into motion experiences that confirm it. This is called a self-fulfilling prophesy.
