Introduction self-test
So far we have discussed the relationship between self-esteem and self-respect and have focused on a definition of self-respect. If you wish, take a simple self-test of your progress so far. For each of the following four statements, note whether you think the statement is true or false. Then go to the next frame for answers.

1. Self-esteem means feeling deep down a healthy form of inspiring happiness.
2. Self-respect is the real value we place on the facts about ourselves.
3. Our beliefs shape our experience of the world in three ways: action, attention, and distortion.
4. "Children who have low self-respect may focus on their failures instead of successes" is an example of how beliefs control attention.
