Self-respect
cannot be gained in isolation of caring others
The first three elements must find fulfillment in the fourth, “I
am a friend.” If we stop with the first three we run the
risk of elevating ego to potentially selfish heights. “Friend” builds
on personal strength for a more noble purpose of caring about and
for others. Self-respect cannot be gained in isolation of caring
others. As self-respect is learned it must be expressed in a positive
social manner.
Write in your journal the name of someone you know
who has self-respect. Describe what you know about this person
that gives you the impression
that he or she has self-respect.
