I received my Ph.D. in Child Development from Purdue University in 1972. I was once director of the Child Development Center at Texas Tech University. Since 1978 I have been a state specialist with the Extension Service at Kansas State University and a professor in the School of Family Studies and Human Services where I have been a parent educator for more than 30 years.
I am the author of five books, including Raising Courageous Kids: Eight Steps to Practical Heroism. One of my books, The Peaceful Classroom: 162 Easy Activities to Teach Preschoolers Compassion and Cooperation, has been translated into five languages.
I am the proud father of two adult children who provided excellent opportunities for learning about what works and what does not regarding discipline and then putting that knowledge to practice as best as I could.
