In Raising
Courageous Kids, I show that although they are influenced by
genetics, courage and heroism are primarily the result of experience.
A person may be born with a daring temperament, but heroism is
the result of a long process of subtle learning. There may be
some inclination to protect others who are in danger or who are
suffering. But experience is necessary to learn when and what
to do.
