At each age, the primary skill flows from what we learned previously and makes the skills that follow possible. The eight steps are more like steps in a dance than steps of a stairway. The relationship between each skill is dynamic, not static. Each skill begins in infancy but finds a critical time when both age and experience has a special effect. Each skill has its epiphany at a critical age. For example, caring originates during infancy but becomes a critical accomplishment by the end of the third birthday. If you would like to learn more about how these skills interact, take a look at Raising Courageous Kids.
