Performance Management
Objectives
Our aspiration to become a next-generation land-grant university provides us the right opportunity to re-envision how we manage and reward our workforce. This initiative focuses on the creation of a unified staff performance evaluation form and policy alignment to create a consistent performance management approach for all staff. This project generates updated staff performance management training toolkits for supervisors and managers effective January 2025.
Note: This effort does not include tenured or non-tenure track teaching and/or research faculty, graduate students or student employees.
The project includes implementing a new electronic learning and performance management system to automate the performance review process, facilitate employee development and track progress on annual goals. This comprehensive refresh of our performance management process will modernize the K-State talent management functions to recruit, retain and advance university staff in a streamlined way.
Methodology
The university selected Segal, an HR consulting firm, to assist Human Resources with the development of a comprehensive staff performance evaluation system. Segal was instrumental in creating the unified appraisal form, supporting revisions to university policy and providing relevant tools to implement the new performance management process. A steering team comprised of university stakeholders served as a collaborative partner in the following:
- Creating a standardized form tailored to the university's varied requirements, ensuring effortless and consistent performance appraisals for all staff.
- Developing a comprehensive performance management strategy and adapting existing university policy to align with the newly established performance management processes.
- Outlining performance management guidance, training and tools for supervisory staff and establishing communication standards to ensure seamless implementation of the new performance appraisal system.
