Performance Management

Performance Management Objectives

Our aspiration to become a next-generation land-grant university provides us the right opportunity to re-envision how we manage and reward our workforce. The first phase of this project will focus on the creation of a unified staff performance evaluation form and align policies to create a consistent performance management approach for all staff. This project will also generate training toolkits for supervisors and managers.

The second phase of the project will include implementing a new electronic learning and performance management system to automate the performance review process, facilitate employee development and track progress on annual goals. This comprehensive refresh of our performance management process will modernize the K-State talent management functions to recruit, retain and advance university staff in a streamlined way.

*this effort does not include tenured or non-tenure track teaching and/or research faculty, graduate students or student employees

Performance Management Methodology

The university selected Segal, an HR consulting firm, to develop a comprehensive staff performance evaluation system. Segal will create a unified appraisal form, support revisions to university policy and provide relevant tools to implement the new performance management process. A steering team comprising university stakeholders will aid the collaborative partner in the following:

  • Create a standardized form tailored to the university's varied requirements, ensuring effortless and consistent performance appraisals for all staff.
  • Develop a comprehensive performance management strategy and adapt existing university policy to align with the newly established performance management processes.
  • Outline performance management guidance, training and tools for supervisory staff and establish communication standards to ensure seamless implementation of the new performance appraisal system.

Segal will engage frequently with stakeholders, the executive leadership team and the steering committee to ensure the system aligns with the vision of this project.
