Six graduate students recognized for research presentations at K-State GRAD Forum

Submitted by Megan Miller

On March 31 and April 1, 30 graduate students shared their research and scholarly work at the annual K-State Graduate Research, Arts and Discovery, or, K-GRAD, Forum held virtually via Zoom.

The K-GRAD Forum provided graduate students from all disciplines an opportunity to share their work with the K-State community and gain experience presenting their work in a professional setting to a broad audience. The forum included poster and oral presentations on topics in agricultural sciences, biological sciences, engineering, math, physical sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

University faculty, staff and postdoc judges selected winning presentations from each session. The first-place presenters received a $500 scholarship, and their names will be engraved on perpetual plaques for their presentation session. The plaques will be displayed in the students' departments until next year's forum. A second-place award of $250 was also presented in the biological sciences oral presentation session and in the poster session, which included more presentations than other sessions.

The following are 2021 K-State GRAD Forum winners:

Agricultural sciences:

  • First place: Nar Ranabhat, doctoral student in plant pathology.

Biological sciences

  • First place: Kiana Schulze, doctoral student in kinesiology.
  • Second place: Ramona Weber, doctoral student in kinesiology.

Physical sciences

  • First place: Cristiane Brazil, doctoral student in industrial engineering.

Poster session:

  • First place: Nadeeshani Ratnayaka, master's student in apparel and textiles.
  • Second place: Upasana Dhakal, doctoral student in plant pathology.

The K-GRAD Forum is sponsored by the Graduate Student Council, the Graduate School, and the Office of the President.
