College of Education members present at two national conferences

Several of Kansas State University's College of Education faculty, staff and partners of the curriculum and instruction department presented at two national conferences recently in Chicago.

Among the K-State presentations at the National Association for Professional Development Schools conference Feb. 10-12 were:

• "K-STEP Up: An Innovative PDS Model for Place-Bound Students" by Julia Linkus, Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools; Darin Workman, Seward County Community College; Hira Nair of Kansas City Kansas Community College; and Todd Goodson, College of Education assistant dean.

• "Telepresence Robots in Rural PDS Early Field Experience" by Suzanne Porath, assistant professor, and Eileen Wertzberger, field experiences coordinator and doctoral candidate.

Presentations at the Association of Teacher Educators Conference, Feb. 11-16, included:

• "'We're All Needing So Much Grace': How a Survey of Teacher Education Students During the Pandemic Can Help Shape Future Teacher Education Programming to Address Mental Health Challenges" by Haden Botkin, graduate research assistant; Tonnie Martinez, assistant professor; Debbie Mercer, dean; and Todd Goodson, assistant dean.

• "Cross-Cultural Remote Field Experiences: Using New Tools to Achieve Old Goals" by Mark Ellner, teaching assistant professor; Eileen Wertzberger, field experiences coordinator and doctoral candidate; Éder Intriago-Palacios, post-doctoral fellow; Spencer Clark, associate professor; and Goodson. 

• "Advancing Supervision in Clinically Based Teacher Education: Advances, Opportunities, and Explorations" by Spencer Clark, associate professor. This presentation focused on a book chapter authored by Clark, Lotta Larson, associate professor; Eileen Wertzberger, field experiences coordinator and doctoral candidate; and Thomas Vontz, professor, published in Supervision in Clinically-Based Teacher Education: Advances, Opportunities and Explorations, 2021.
