'Parts May Cross': A journey into speculative architecture by Kaden Beilman

Submitted by Thom Jackson

The College of Architecture, Planning & Design, or APDesign, presents "Parts May Cross," an intriguing exhibition by Kaden Beilman, a distinguished lecturer at the Louisiana Tech University School of Design. The collection is on exhibit from Monday, Dec. 4, to Monday, Dec. 18, in the Chang Gallery in Seaton Hall, inviting attendees to immerse themselves in a captivating exploration of speculative architecture through drawing.

Over the past four years, Beilman's work in "Parts May Cross" has evolved into a sincere inquiry into the essence of space and structure. The exhibition is a compilation of experiments in mark-making, where the act of drawing becomes a powerful tool for investigating the potentialities within architectural thought. Each piece serves as a testament to the investigative process, offering viewers a series of variated exercises that delve into the abstract qualities of intuition and the precision of architectural design.

The title of the exhibition, "Parts May Cross," pays homage to the improvisational dynamics of jazz while primarily reflecting the intricate crossing of architectural lines and the possibilities that unfold in their intersections. Crafted from a place of curiosity and rigor, these drawings invite viewers to engage with the speculative side of architecture, prompting them to consider the unseen and the might-be.

"Parts May Cross" is more than just an exhibition; it is a prodding of personal architectural imagination, rendered through the intimacy and immediacy of the drawn line. The Chang Gallery in Seaton Hall will serve as the backdrop for this immersive experience.

As a complement to the exhibition, Beilman will host an "Architecturally Speaking" talk at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Union Station by JP's. This event offers an opportunity for attendees to gain deeper insights into the creative process and concepts explored in "Parts May Cross."
