Language Placement

Students interested in studying a language are encouraged to take the language placement questionnaire (see below), and/or meet with a language advisor.

Explore the various programs offered in Modern Languages along with current course descriptions, and the diverse advantages of incorporating language learning into your academic pursuits and career goals by visiting our Benefits of Learning a Language page. Discover how multilingualism can enhance your educational journey and professional prospects.

The language placement questionnaire will help determine the course that best aligns with students' language skills level.

Once the form is completed, students should take a screenshot of their results and share it with their advisor for enrollment. For any questions regarding the results, please contact mlangadvising@ksu.edu.

Note for advisors:

  • The placement questionnaire will let the student know which course to enroll in, but you can also use our placement guide to assist your students in selecting the right course(s) based on their language background. If unsure about which course to take, please contact contact us at mlangadvising@ksu.edu
  • Explore all the languages we offer and our degree program options at a glance, and look at our current course descriptions.
Retroactive Credit Information:

Please note that students placing into a higher level and successfully completing the course with a "C" or better, will receive FREE retroactive credit for the preceding course in the language sequence (101-301), on a "take one class/ receive credit for one class" basis, thus completing the language course sequence quicker. Students with no previous language experience should enroll in the 101 section of the language.
