Instructional Unit Plan
This biggest portion of teaching is spent designing and implementing plans for instruction. These plans are not just the day to day lesson plans but rather more importantly the overall goals and objectives for the students throughout the year, a semester, down to a unit and then finally a lesson. Not only is it enough to decide how to teach the students, but it is also important to adequately assess the students in order to ensure that needs are being met and students are in fact learning the information at a level that will encourage retention and further development as units build on top of each other.
During my internship, I focused on a unit for 6th grade general music at Bluemont Elementary during which the students studied music and film. Open the files below to see an in-depth look at the units design and assessment.
