Bat Policy
Policy Statement
Bats occasionally find their way inside Anderson Hall. They are dangerous and need to be addressed by the procedure listed below. Do not attempt to capture any bats.
Scope
This policy addresses bats in the following areas of Anderson Hall
- Room 118
- Room 001
If a bat or bats are sighted in other areas contact the appropriate people. A list of contacts is provided below the bat procedure.
Bat Removal Procedure
Step | Action |
1 | Contact the appropriate person – see contact below NOTE: the contact person will engage the pest control specialist Provide the contact person with the location of the bat |
2 | Solicit a volunteer to monitor the bat’s position |
3 | Evacuate the immediate area – except the person monitoring the bat’s position NOTE: If the bat(s) become aggressive or the monitor determines the situation to be too dangerous, they need to exit the immediate area, but remain on-site to direct the pest control specialist. |
4 | Go to the designated area/The K-State Union Sign on the eastside of the Union – Supervisors are responsible for their staff and making sure they are out of the building/room |
5 | Restrict the bat’s exit points, if possible |
6 | After a pest control specialist removes the bat(s), the monitor will notify the (evacuated) staff that it is safe to return. The person who stayed behind to monitor the bat will let the office know when it is all clear. |
7 | Evacuated staff return to their work areas |
