Staff Academic Study
- Any full-time classified employee with prior approval of his/her supervisor and the Registrar may enroll for courses for personal growth or to develop job-related skills. Employee may enroll in courses which require no more than six contact hours per week for a regular semester (or three contact hours for a summer session) during regular work hours at Kansas State University. The work required of the position must be made up. No more than one employee may be gone from any section at any time due to class attendance. There is no restriction on the course work taken outside work hours. Approved enrollment may be at Kansas State University or any public or private 2 or 4 year University or community college within the State of Kansas.
- Employee must be a full time (10 tenths) classified employee not on probation, who has been employed at Kansas State University a minimum of one year and whose most recent performance evaluation rating is at least satisfactory.
- Employee should discuss plans to take classes for credit during work time with their immediate supervisor. Employee must present a completed KSU Educational Authorization Form (PER 25) to be filed in the Time and Leave folder.
- Employee may be absent from the office to attend class for a maximum of two hours out of any work day and a maximum of two hours of any work week without making up the time. If an employee must be absent more than two hours a week, the additional hours above two hours are to be made up using one of the following time adjustments with Supervisor's approval.
- Employee will make up time away from work by beginning work day early, shortening noon hour or working after 5:00 using the Flex Time Policy Section A. VII.
- Employee will use compensatory leave or vacation leave for time away from work.
- Employees are encouraged to schedule classes at these suggested times 7:30, 11:30, 12:30 or 4:30 to allow the least interruption to office procedures. Any need for variation of these times should be discussed with supervisor and will require approval of supervisor and Registrar.
- Any preparation for classes will be done outside work hours. An employee who wishes to study/practice or prepare for class using equipment in the Office of the Registrar must request permission from their Supervisor each time they would like to use the equipment in the Office of the Registrar during non-work hours.
- Employee will leave the office no more than 10 minutes prior to the beginning of class and will be back in the office within 10 minutes after the end of class.
