The National Strategic Selling Institute at Kansas State University hosted the Fall 2024 Basys Sales Competition on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The competition featured 20 students pursuing the professional strategic selling major or certificate, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their sales skills in a dynamic role-play environment.
In the role-play scenario, a Basys representative acted as the customer, while students assumed the role of a Basys associate, facilitating the conversation to explore whether Basys could offer a suitable solution for PullPress gym software and arrange a follow-up meeting. The competition was designed to strengthen students' practical sales experience, helping them develop the skills needed to connect solutions with customer needs and cultivate long-term business relationships.
The following students earned top honors in their respective competition rooms:
- Room 1: Caydence Pankaskie, junior in business and professional strategic selling, Lebo
- Room 2: Jackson Stewart, sophomore in professional strategic selling, Lenexa
- Room 3: Blake Beashore, junior in professional strategic selling, Kansas City
Additionally, Cuyler Kietzmann, a senior in professional strategic selling from Tonganoxie, received the Top Newcomer Award. Each of these participants was awarded a $500 merit scholarship in recognition of their achievements.
"We always look forward to spending time with these exceptionally talented students. Their creativity and dedication consistently exceed our expectations. They never fail to inspire and impress us," said Trevor Stancil, manager of talent acquisition at Basys.
The National Strategic Selling Institute is housed in the College of Business Administration, which has been named one of the top sales programs in the country for 13 straight years by the Sales Education Foundation. The team consists of students enrolled in the certificate or major in professional strategic selling. In fall 2018, Kansas State University became just the 19th university in the U.S. to offer a major in professional strategic selling. Students can also earn a certificate in professional strategic selling, which is open to all majors at the university. The professional strategic selling program introduces students to the fundamentals of sales and the innovative curriculum and sales labs allow students to develop the skills needed to be successful.
