Lily Turner wins prestigious IIDA Mid-America Design Award for Steelcase NEXT Project
Lily Turner, a fifth-year master's student in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design at Kansas State University, has been awarded the prestigious Mid-America Design Award in the Student Project category for her exceptional work on the 2023 Steelcase NEXT project.
The awards, hosted by the International Interior Design Association, or IIDA, Mid-America Chapter, recognize outstanding achievement in interior design, and Turner's innovative approach to design has earned her high praise from industry professionals.
The Steelcase NEXT project challenges students to create cutting-edge, future-forward environments that incorporate thoughtful design strategies and innovative use of materials. Turner's project stood out among a highly competitive field of entries from students across the region. Her design not only demonstrated technical excellence but also showcased creativity in addressing modern workplace challenges, focusing on flexibility, sustainability and user-centered solutions.
"We are incredibly proud of Lily's achievement," said Michelle Wempe, professor of practice in the department of interior architecture & industrial design at K-State. "This award is a testament to her dedication, creativity and passion for design. It also reflects the quality of education and mentorship provided by our program."
Turner's recognition at the Mid-America Design Awards is a significant milestone as she continues her journey in design education, preparing for a successful career in architecture and interior design. The award ceremony, held Oct. 11 by IIDA Mid-America, celebrated the excellence in design within the Kansas City and Wichita regions and is one of the most respected honors in the industry.
