K-State's agenda for the January Kansas Board of Regents meeting

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

The Kansas Board of Regents will meet Jan. 15 at the Curtis State Office Building in Topeka. A livestream will be available for individuals to listen remotely.

K-State items on the consent agenda:

K-State requests approval to accept an 85-acre tract of land known as Knox Lane from the KSU Foundation following a 10-year lease purchase agreement. The property is used by the College of Agriculture to provide corn silage for cattle operations at the university's dairy and beef research facilities.

K-State requests approval to amend the fiscal year 2025 capital improvement project plan and approve the program statement for construction of the Beef Cattle Research Center. The proposed facility will replace the existing feedlot at 3115 College Ave., which is no longer in use. The $16 million project will be fully funded with philanthropic and industry partner gifts.

K-State items on the discussion agenda:

The Kansas Legislature has provided enhanced State General Fund appropriations to the College of Veterinary Medicine since fiscal year 2013 targeted to research faculty, in support of their research activity and facilities renovations. Bonnie Rush, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, will update the Regents on the impact of these investments.

The Regents will receive updates from each state university on the impact of Legislative investments in student success initiatives. Thomas Lane, vice president for academic success and student affairs and dean of students, will share how K-State has used the funding to improve student retention and graduation rates and provide additional need-based aid.

K-State requests approval to name the Beef Cattle Research Center.
