Contract Postal Unit closing March 5
Submitted by Division of Facilities
K-State's Contract Postal Unit on the west end of Dykstra Hall will permanently close on Wednesday, March 5. The Contract Postal Unit has been operating since 1989 under a state contract, providing postal products and services to students, faculty, staff and the public at United States Postal Service prices. However, due to changing consumer needs, it is no longer feasible to continue operating the office. Contract Postal Unit staff will be transferred to Central Mail Services in Dykstra Hall.
Central Mail Services will not be affected by the closure. They will continue to pick up campus mail, including stamped and metered mail, at 9 a.m. Monday - Friday. All mail will be sorted, scanned and sent to Manhattan's central USPS location by 3 p.m., departing Manhattan by 4 p.m.
K-State understands that this closure may inconvenience many who have used the Contract Postal Unit services over the years. Therefore, discussions are underway with another campus department about potentially taking over certain shipping services the Contract Postal Unit offers. More details will be provided as plans are finalized. In the meantime, if you require Contract Postal Unit services, please visit the main USPS office at 500 Leavenworth St. or the USPS office inside Hy-Vee at 601 North 3rd Place.
