Parking garage changes bringing quicker access, improved traffic flow

Submitted by Darwin Abbott

Parking services will install new equipment in the parking garage during spring break that will mean quicker, more convenient garage access and improved traffic flow when classes resume.

Beginning March 24 customers will use their K-State parking pass to enter the garage. The bar code on the permit will allow entry in the same way the RFID card did. When new permits are issued this summer, they will include a RFID chip and will operate like K-Tags on the Kansas Turnpike; cars will enter slowly, and the arm will raise.

During spring break, drivers will experience some service interruptions as new detection loops are cut in the concrete entry and exit lanes, and gate arms and pay equipment are replaced. The Mid-Campus Drive entry and exit could be closed as soon as March 13, and some lanes on the 17th Street access point could be out of service at any time. Parking will notify campus in advance any closures.

Because of these service interruptions, the parking in the garage will be free during spring break, March 17-21.
