Hageman elected to leadership role in American Accounting Association

Submitted by Brent Fritzemeier

Amy Hageman, assistant professor of accounting in the College of Business Administration, has been named chair-elect of the Public Interest Section of the American Accounting Association.

"It is an incredible honor to serve as chair-elect of the Public Interest Section," Hageman said. "I look forward to advancing this section's goals of helping to promote interaction and research among members interested in studying the social and ethical implications of accounting information and the accounting profession."

Hageman will serve as the chair-elect for the 2014-2016 term, before taking on the chair position through the 2016-2018 term. She has been involved in the organization since joining the American Accounting Association as a student in 2005, and previously served as co-coordinator of the 2013 Public Interest Section Mid-Year Meeting.

"I hope to foster a 'big tent' mentality for the section, and to help grow its membership among other accounting academics and practitioners who also are interested in understanding the societal and ethical underpinnings of accounting," Hageman said.

At the College of Business Administration, Hageman was the 2013 recipient of the Kansas State Bank Teaching Award based on her pedagogical publications and her impact on enhancing teaching beyond the K-State campus.

The American Accounting Association is comprised of the largest community of accountants in academia, providing support for research-active academics, as well as teaching resources. The Public Interest Section of the organization focuses on research in accounting with social, economic, political or ethical consequences.
