Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences Week, April 21-25
The 2014 Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences , or MANRRS, Week will take place April 21-25 with the theme "K-State MANRRS + Partnership = Success."
Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences is a student organization that provides a local, regional and national network support for K-State students enrolled in agriculture, natural sciences, related sciences and other interdisciplinary subjects.
The week is focusing on forming partnerships with multicultural student organizations on campus as well as observing Earth Day activities. The week's activities include:
- Monday through Wednesday, a membership drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the K-State Student Union.
- The installation of the new executive board and the recognition of past executive board is Wednesday, April 23.
- The K-State MANRRS chapter will present to the College of Agriculture dean's advisory board about the chapter's 2013-2014 year of activities on Friday, April 25.
The K-State chapter was charted in 2003 and recently attended the 29th annual MANRRS Career and Training National Conference March 27-30 in Birmingham, Ala. The 2014 K-State MANRRS chapter delegation included 13 student members, along with advisers Zelia Wiley, Derris Burnett and junior adviser Curtis Pitts, Highland Park High School, Topeka.
Congratulations to Taneysha Howard, MANRRS executive board member, who won national conference theme contest for her entry "Thirty Years of Triumph: Branching Out and Excelling to Greater Heights," which will be featured on all conference items in 2015. Howard is a junior in agriculture communications and journalism.
Congratulations also to Zelia Wiley, assistant dean for diversity programs office and MANRRS chapter adviser, for winning the coveted National Advisor of the Year Award.
The student organization's general meetings are at 6 p.m. every second and fourth Wednesday in 137 Waters Hall. The next activity will be a study hall for finals from 5-10 p.m. in 106 Waters Hall with refreshments.
As you can see, this spring semester has been a busy but exciting time for the K-State Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences chapter. We are looking forward to seeing what the fall semester will bring.
