College of Human Ecology unveils mentoring program
The College of Human Ecology has inaugurated a mentoring program that will pair juniors, seniors and graduate students with professionals in their fields.
"One of the transformational educational experiences we want to offer our students is mentorship from sage professionals," said John Buckwalter, dean, when he announced the new program.
"Our faculty prepares them with knowledge and skills. But a mentor can add an extra advantage," he said. "Students can greatly benefit from advice and counsel from a person currently in the field, especially on topics such as professional trends, development opportunities and professional organizations that eventually will help them become leaders in their fields."
The mentorships begin this fall. Students are encouraged to apply by May 9. Students may take completed applications and resumés to the dean's office in 119 Hall.
Mentors will be alumni and friends who represent all disciplines within human ecology, from interior design to kinesiology, from marriage and family therapy to apparel marketing, from early childhood education to athletic training.
Mentors may volunteer by contacting Andrea Feldkamp at afeld@k-state.edu or 785-532-5500.
