K-State Libraries hosts webinar 'Applying Copyright in Online Learning Environments'

Submitted by Sarah McGreer Hoyt

Do you think about copyright law when you upload materials to K-State Online? Ever worry about whether you're operating within the parameters of fair use?

K-State Libraries will host a free ALA TechSource 90-minute webinar "Applying Copyright in Online Learning Environments" with Gretchen McCord at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, in 301 Hale Library.

McCord, a lawyer and librarian, will break down the elements of course management system use and help you assess risk and analyze copyright law to ensure you're within copyright regulations. She also will illuminate facets of copyright law that will help you make informed decisions about what materials you can upload to your online learning environment.

You will learn:

  • how to apply fair use and other copyright exceptions to your decision making;
  • how to make sound analogies from court decisions on brick-and-mortar cases;
  • how to assess risk when using copyright-protected content.

No registration necessary. Contact Beth Turtle, scholarly communications librarian, at 785-532-2830 or bturtle@k-state.edu for additional information.
