Schrader Family Scholarship to support Kansas State University students from Jefferson County
The Schrader family, formerly of Oskaloosa, recently made a gift to Kansas State University to establish the Schrader Family Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will provide financial assistance to a student in any curriculum at the university, provided the student is an incoming freshman from Jefferson County with a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0.
Those contributing to the scholarship include Deb Lamphier, East Moline, Illinois; Clara Schrader and Dave Schrader, both from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Dan Schrader, Federal Way, Washington.
Clara Schrader's late husband, Joseph Schrader, was a 1948 graduate of Kansas State University's College of Agriculture. The couple would eventually see several family members attend the university. Lamphier graduated in 1976 with a bachelor's degree from the College of Business Administration. She works as a supply management manager for Deere & Co. Dan Schrader graduated in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, majoring in marketing and management. He works as a 737 captain for Alaska Airlines in Seattle, Washington. Dave Schrader attended Kansas State University and is employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as a supervisor, air traffic control specialist. Clara Schrader and Deborah Lamphier are both members of the President's Club, a Kansas State University Foundation philanthropic leadership organization for friends and alumni of the university.
"Our family is interested in attracting high school seniors who wish to attend a university that shares their interests in agriculture, academic achievement and also recognizes their community service through a variety of local organizations like 4-H, Future Farmers of America, Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts," Lamphier said. "We want to supplement the financial resources available to high school seniors in Jefferson County, Kansas, who wish to pursue an education at a fine agricultural institution like Kansas State University."
Students interested in applying for the Schrader Family Scholarship are encouraged to contact the university's Office of Student Financial Assistance at 785-532-6420 as soon as possible.
Philanthropic contributions to Kansas State University are coordinated by the KSU Foundation. The foundation staff works with university partners to build lifelong relationships with alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students through involvement and investment in the university.
