Governor announces budget cuts for higher education
Submitted by Communications and Marketing
President Kirk Schulz was informed this morning that Gov. Sam Brownback will implement a FY 2015 state general fund allotment that reduces higher education state general funds. According to information released by the governor's office earlier this afternoon, higher education state general funds are being cut by $16.2 million or approximately 2 percent. This represents a reduction of about $3.4 million for all of Kansas State University.
The University Budget Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet next Friday and will begin working to develop recommendations for how the funds may be reduced at the university.
President Schulz and his staff continue to work with legislative and campus leaders to gather information and report back to the university. Communication will be made as quickly as possible once details on the reductions and recommendations for implementation this fiscal year are made available. In addition, we will inform the campus of legislative actions as the FY 2016 and FY 2017 budgets are developed.
