A message from the president: K-State reaffirms commitment to nondiscrimination

Submitted by Kirk Schulz

I have received many recent inquiries about our policies regarding discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. This is a good time to remind all employees of our university policy of nondiscrimination:

"Kansas State University is committed to nondiscrimination on the basis of race, color, ethnic or national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, ancestry, disability, genetic information, military status, veteran status, or other non-merit reasons, in admissions, educational programs or activities and employment, including employment of disabled veterans and veterans of the Vietnam Era, as required by applicable laws and regulations."

Despite what may be inferred from recent news reports, the university is not required to change this policy. Our university governance bodies have endorsed principles that affirm the inherent dignity and value of every person while valuing diversity. As we engage in respectful dialogue on this and other issues, I would be happy to hear from anyone in our university community.
