School of Family Studies and Human Services adds VISTA members to support military families
As an expansion of the School of Family Studies and Human Services support to military-connected families living and working off military installations across Kansas, Emily Betthauser and Brittany Beneke, seniors in family studies, and Kali Summers, summer 2015 graduate of the family studies master's degree program, have been named as Volunteers in Service to America, or VISTA, members with the Institute for the Health and Security of Military Families.
The three VISTA members, who are supervised by Elaine Johannes, associate professor and extension specialist in the school and partner with the institute, are supported by the federal Corporation for National and Community Service. Their work is focused on the Kansas National Guard's Joining Community Forces, a national initiative to build networks of organizations to services to the state's military personnel and their families.
The volunteer program is celebrating its 50th year of service to America, and VISTA members build leadership, management and policy skills throughout their year of service.
