Dorhout to present at American Chemical Society National Meeting
Peter K. Dorhout, interim vice president for research, will travel to the American Chemical Society National Meeting March 13–17 to present two sessions. He will facilitate a four-hour hands-on course on strategic planning designed to help participants develop a strategic management process, translate high-level goals into actionable plans and initiatives, recognize and deal with differences between organizational units, and communicate plans with others.
Dorhout also will co-present a session with Rick Ewing from Bristol-Myers Squibb on the challenges of unemployment of young graduates and midcareer chemical professionals. Data suggests that the nature of the chemical industry is changing, which may require changes in education of future practitioners, professionals and non-chemists. Dorhout and Ewing will analyze how the American Chemical Society has responded to similar past challenges and how the society could address changing circumstances to promote diverse learning opportunities and broaden the career sustainability of current and future members of the organization.
