Anthropology professors present at the American Association of Physical Anthropology annual meetings
Submitted by Marta Alfonso-Durruty
Arthur Durband and Marta Alfonso-Durruty, both anthropology professors, will present their current research at the 85th annual American Association of Physical Anthropology meetings April 13-16 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Durband's work expands our understanding of the behavior and biology of early Australians, and improves our ability to accurately identify sex in ancient Australian skeletons. Alfonso-Durruty's research has identified extinct prehistoric mtDNA lineages in Southern Patagonia. Additionally, her study documents a previously unidentified Y-chromosome haplotype among prehistoric males in the Fuego-Patagonia region. This research enriches our understanding of prehistoric South American population dynamics and contributes to the discussion of the peopling of the Americas.
