Writer Julian Hoffman will read from his work at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in K-State Student Union's Little Theatre.

Hoffman was born in England and grew up in Canada. Since 2000, he has lived beside the Prespa Lakes in northern Greece. His book, "The Small Heart of Things: Being at Home in a Beckoning World," was chosen by Terry Tempest Williams as the winner of the 2012 AWP Award Series for Nonfiction. In 2014, it won a National Outdoor Book Award for Natural History Literature.

Recent work includes a collection of short stories called "All Those Places We Never Went" and a nonfiction book, "Irreplaceable," which explores the relationship between wildlife, places and the human connections to both.

"Julian Hoffman's essays take us deeply into place. He celebrates diversities: borderlands where people connect with one another despite the barrier of different languages; habitats where some species adapt and recover from environmental injury and displacement," said Elizabeth Dodd, university distinguished professor of English and creative writing.

More information about Hoffman's work is available from his website.

Hoffman's reading is sponsored by the English department and the Prairie Studies Initiative. The event is free and open to the public. A book-signing will follow the reading.
