Union Program Council to host the eighth season of 'Dancing with the K-State Stars'
Get ready to groove with Union Program Council, or UPC, at the eighth annual "Dancing with the K-State Stars." The competition pairs K-State "stars" with dance "professionals" in a competition for the coveted mirror ball trophy.
The dancing begins at 7 p.m. Monday, April 18, in McCain Auditorium. Tickets to the dance competition are free and can be picked up at the McCain Auditorium box office from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 18.
The judging table for the eighth season includes Ben Hopper, director of fraternity and sorority life and former "Dancing with the K-State Stars" star; David Ollington, K-State professor of dance; and Donita Whitney-Bammerlin, instructor and academic program coordinator in the College of Business Administration.
K-State dance couples spend several hours choreographing, learning and perfecting their two-minute routines. The audience will see performances by K-State students and faculty ranging from hip-hop to swing and salsa, and from contemporary to tap.
The cast of this season's event includes Ashley Wilmoth, 2015 Miss K-State competition winner; Hunter Post, K-State student ambassador; Mike Finnegan, assistant professor in the School of Leadership Studies; Jessica Van Ranken, student body president; and Marcus Kidd, graduate student in counseling and student development. The professionals include Richard Reed, Grace Pierson, Jamie Teixeira, Mackenzie Mong and Mary Abounabhan.
