Help give a new name to an old building
University officials seek building name suggestions from the campus community to give an identity to an old building. The building's nickname, the old Foundation building, hints at its past but doesn't reflect its current functions.
Once home to Farm Bureau and the KSU Foundation, the building — at 2323 Anderson Ave. — now hosts a variety of university departments as a result of recent space migration phases. The building houses the Office of the Chief Information Officer and Vice Provost for Information Technology Services, including the Information Systems Office, the Information Security and Compliance Office, and the Office of Mediated Education; the Testing Center; the Office of Educational Innovation and Evaluation; Engineering Extension; and portions of the Division of Financial Services: Fund Balancing, General Accounting, Information Systems, Sponsored Programs Accounting and Purchasing.
"The university purchased the tower portion of the building from the KSU Foundation earlier this year," said Cindy Bontrager, vice president for administration and finance, "but we've had staff in the other portion of the building since 1991, when Farm Bureau relocated to its new facility. We've lived in this building for a while now without an official name so it's time to name the building. I appreciate Heather Mill's work to establish this naming process to involve the campus community."
Suggested names should relate to the building's function or heritage of K-State, or commemorate university history and tradition. Individual names complying with the university's naming buildings and facilities policy also will be accepted.
A working group, comprised of one representative from each unit in the building and one representative from each governance group, will review the proposed names and forward the top four recommended names to Bontrager for review. A survey will be administered to the campus community to gain input on the final options. The survey data and name options will be presented to the president and president's cabinet to determine the final building name.
All current K-State students and employees are eligible to submit recommendations. Submissions should be received no later than Sept. 9.
