Interior design program ranked No. 6 in the U.S.
K-State's interior design program in the College of Human Ecology is ranked No. 6 — top 4 percent — in the U.S. by DesignIntelligence. The program is the only four-year interior design program in Kansas with accreditation by the Council on Interior Design Accreditation. The interior design program has a strong reputation for producing graduates ready to enter the interior design profession.
On a recent survey, a top 10 architectural firm in the U.S. and employer of interior design program graduates said, "The Kansas State graduates employed by us have demonstrated strong problem solving and technical skills. There is a realistic expectation of the professional work environment. They understand the process of learning is not over as soon as they graduate, and they enter the work environment with an eagerness to continue the learning process."
The interior design program also is ranked No. 2 out of the Midwestern programs, coming in behind the University of Cincinnati's program. The most recent DesignIntelligence survey of interior design deans and department heads indicated that K-State's interior design program was most admired "for its integrated, progressive and diverse curriculum."
Interior design students recently visited multinational architecture and design firms in Chicago and are currently completing a design project in conjunction with design students at Inje University in South Korea.
"The College of Human Ecology's interior design program engages students in experiences that give them a global perspective of the design professions, which prepares them for robust careers," said Barbara Anderson, head of the apparel, textiles, and interior design department.
America's Best Architecture and Design Schools has been published annually since 2000 by the Design Futures Council, a global network of design community professionals, including leaders of architecture and design firms, manufacturers and service providers.
