Total Rewards next steps

Submitted by Jeff Morris

The ongoing university discussion concerning the transition to Total Rewards has been robust and enlightening. Thanks to all who provided input and commentary as we move through a period of significant change regarding compensation practices for unclassified and university support staff. Completing this process is an important step on our path to becoming a Top 50 public research university.

The original time frame called for the distribution of a revised salary structure in September, based on the submission of comments and questions by Aug. 15. A significant number of comments were submitted after this deadline and a second cutoff date was established last week. In order to process this input, which includes conducting research and reviewing data, we are going to delay distribution of the revised salary structure.

On Oct. 7, we will publish a website with the salary structure. Please note that the structure will not have individual information. We will include job codes, job titles, salary ranges, salary grades, job families, job classifications and generic job descriptions. We will include a form to provide commentary and input, but ask that you include a name and email so we can respond. Also note that many of us have "working titles" and more detailed position descriptions that may not be reflected in this structure.

Our original plan was to send a letter on Sept. 30 to each employee with individual information. Based on the volume of input we still need to process, we are not going to meet this deadline. We remain committed to distributing this information to each employee and will provide a revised timeline soon. We want to make sure the organization can respond to questions and properly manage expectations as the program rolls out.

You can expect further communications on these issues soon. Total Rewards is an important step forward for our university. We appreciate your support.
