For editors and editorial board members: Measuring your journal's impact
Submitted by Sarah McGreer Hoyt
New Prairie Press and the Center for the Advancement of Digital Scholarship, or CADS, present "Measuring Journal Impact," a workshop series for editors and editorial board members.
These events are not just for editors who host their publications with New Prairie Press. Whether your publication is based on campus or on the other side of the globe, whether it's open access or hosted by a commercial publisher or an association, you might benefit from careful analysis of your journal's readership and impact.

• The Journal Impact Factor, Eigenfactor and the H-Index, 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 407 Hale Library. In this hands-on session, we'll cover finding and using journal metrics for both your journal and your own research. Learn how metrics are created, how they are used — and when they shouldn't be — and how they can affect the success of your journal.
• Altmetrics, 2-3 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 407 Hale Library. Increasingly, altmetrics are used in conjunction with traditional citation-based metrics to track how researchers, the public and the media engage with scholarly research online. You'll learn how altmetrics capture data and explore the benefits of tracking a journal's online activities. We'll even show you how to determine who's saying what about research articles and how to identify and contextualize the volume and nature of the online attention.
• Google Analytics, 3-4 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 407 Hale Library. In this workshop, learn about key metrics that can be gathered using Google Analytics, including where to monitor real-time data, how to compare data segments and how to create and save a unique report. For those not currently using Google Analytics on their site, we'll show you how to add it.
CADS at K-State Libraries aims to create a community of editors on campus who can share resources and learn from each other's experiences.
