Learn more about the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance's historical instrument collection
The K-State and Manhattan communities are invited to get up close and personal with the historical instruments in the collection of the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.
As an unofficial Week of Welcome event, K-State's historical performance ensemble, Collegium Musicum, will host a historical instrument "petting zoo" from 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, in Kirmser Hall, 204 McCain Auditorium. A variety of replica period instruments from the 15th-18th centuries will be on display, including multiple sizes of recorders, crumhorns, viols, cornett, sacbuts and more.
Visitors will be encouraged to try the instruments and learn more about their histories and usage, as well as their use in the ensemble. Members of Collegium Musicum will give brief demonstrations of the instruments throughout the "petting zoo."
