Teacher scholars from Saudi Arabia to present research posters Feb. 6 and 7
Teacher scholars from Saudi Arabia will present ideas for educational innovation after having completed a yearlong professional development program at K-State and in collaboration with local schools.
Engage with different scholars at each session this week: 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, and Thursday, Feb. 7, in 21 Bluemont Hall.
The K-State khbrat SUMMIT program, funded by the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission through the Building Leadership for Change through School Immersion program, is designed to:
- Bolster scholars' English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
- Enhance their capacities for effective instruction.
- Provide immersion experiences in U.S. schools.
Scholars completed coursework and programming with the Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy in the College of Education, and with the English Language Program. They engaged in immersion experiences in Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 and Junction City USD 475, and visited schools in surrounding communities.
After exploring new pedagogical theories, instructional strategies, and the larger U.S. education system, the scholars developed a capstone project. Each of the 40 teacher scholars proposed a research-based educational initiative/intervention for implementation in Saudi Arabia. Now the scholars are ready to share their ideas with the K-State community.
