Listen to the latest Global Food Systems podcast with Jon Herington
A new podcast, "Something to Chew On," explores the complexity and nuance of the global food system, celebrates food systems progress and debates how to feed a growing world population. The most recent episode features Jon Herington, assistant professor of philosophy, and discusses "Food Security and GMO Labeling."
Herington is a political philosopher of applied ethics, focusing mainly on the concept of risk within the fields of science, health and technology. In the March 7 discussion, the podcast covers the definition of security and what it means to be food secure as well as why simply labeling food as containing genetically engineered ingredients may not actually be in the best interest of individual consumers.
This interview was recorded in late 2018 before the USDA made a final ruling on the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Law. The standards have been set since, but we still feel that listeners will find this conversation interesting and useful. Read more information about labeling requirements.
