History professors attend International Commission of Military History Congress
Associate professor of history Andrew Orr attended the Congress of the International Commission of Military History in Sofia, Bulgaria, from Aug. 18-23, where he presented the paper "Trying to Win the Peace: the Franco-Turkish War and the Struggle to end the Great War in the Middle East" on behalf of the United States Commission of Military History.
The conference, which was sponsored by the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense, brought together civilian scholars, government historians and military professionals from more than 25 countries to discuss the effort to restore peace after the end of World War I. Participants attended a memorial commemorating the Second Battle of the Shipka Pass, a decisive battle of Bulgaria's independence war against the Ottoman Empire, and a ceremony at Bulgaria's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
