Learn about partnering with Hoeflin Stone House Child Development Laboratory for research opportunities

The Early Childhood Education Program and the School of Family Studies and Human Services in the College of Health and Human Sciences is hosting Brent A. McBride, who is visiting K-State to help rethink the role of Hoeflin Stone House Child Development Laboratory in research, instruction and engagement.
A brown bag lunch has been scheduled from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, in 254 Justin Hall to help McBride learn about research, instruction and engagement possibilities between programs on campus and Hoeflin Stone House Child Development Laboratory. The campus community is encouraged to come and share ideas and experiences with McBride at this event.
Since its inception in the mid-1920s university-based child development laboratory schools have played a vital role in adding to our ever-expanding knowledge base on child development, learning, the impact of environments on development and learning as well as parent and teacher education. The purpose of this session will be to provide participants with an overview of strategies that enable laboratory schools to successfully support teaching, research and outreach/engagement activities of faculty, staff and students.
McBride is a professor of human development and a professor of nutritional sciences, as well as director of the Child Development Laboratory program at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He has also been engaged in leadership roles with laboratory school programs for the majority of his 36-plus year professional career. McBride has served two consecutive two-year terms as president of the National Organization of Child Development Laboratory Schools, and has conducted research and published manuscripts on issues confronting laboratory school programs across the country.
The Child Development Laboratory at UIUC is widely recognized by peer institutions as being a model laboratory school program that actively supports and facilitates the teaching, research and engagement activities of faculty, staff and students on the university's campus, while at the same time providing high-quality early childhood programming for enrolled children and their families.
