Reminder: Facilitate a hands-on STEM activity at Girls Researching Our World
Reminder: Activity proposals for the spring 2020 Girls Researching Our World, or GROW, workshop are due by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5.
K-State faculty, staff and students are invited to design and facilitate a hands-on science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics activity for middle-school students at the Girls Researching Our World workshop on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the K-State campus in Manhattan.
The spring theme is "2020: Back to the Future." The workshop will explore knowledge gained over the past decade and highlight the new research, innovations or discoveries that will inform the next. Your hands-on activity should relate to this theme. Morgan Greene, program coordinator for the K-State Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering, or KAWSE, is available to brainstorm activity ideas or find connections to facilitators' area of expertise.
Activity sessions are 45-minutes, attended by 10-12 middle school students at a time, and occur at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. A free lunch is provided at noon for all facilitators. A small budget for activity supplies is available with advanced notice.
Interested facilitators should complete and submit an activity planning guide by 5 p.m. Feb. 5. Planning guides and an information sheet are available on the KAWSE website.
The office can provide letters of collaboration to grant agencies for those who facilitate. Please contact Greene for more information.
The GROW program is organized by KAWSE. Student registration information is available on the GROW website and closes Feb. 7.
