Temporary policy change to address financial holds and facilitate enrollment

Dear K-State Community,
As a university community, we have come together to respond to the many challenges of this unprecedented semester. We are deeply grateful for the collaboration, flexibility and resilience demonstrated by our students, faculty and staff. We are aware that students are facing financial impacts and some of these impacts are preventing students from enrolling for future semesters. We are writing today to share one way we can help facilitate students' ability to enroll.
The Kansas Board of Regents recently approved a temporary suspension of a board policy that prohibited students from enrolling if they had outstanding balances from prior semesters. In light of this change to policy, we are also temporarily changing the university policy.
Students who owe the university $2,000 or less will be allowed to enroll. Students who have a balance due of more than $2,000 will continue to have an enrollment hold placed on their account and we encourage them to contact the cashier's office to discuss payment options.
The ability to temporarily change this policy aligns with our interest in removing barriers to student success and in addressing the financial impacts students and their families are experiencing as part of the response to the global pandemic. We hope that this action assists students in enrolling for the summer and/or fall semesters and helps keep students on the path to graduation.
As of May 6, students may see changes to their eligibility to enroll related to this policy. Students, faculty and staff with questions about this temporary change to policy are encouraged to contact the cashier's office at cashiers@k-state.edu.
