Haidong Gu to present Division of Biology Seminar
Submitted by Division of Biology
Haidong Gu, associate professor in the Department of Biology, Wayne State University, will present "Sorting the Host Factors via A Viral E3 Ubiquitin Ligase" as part of the Division of Biology Seminar Series at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, via Zoom.
Viruses are obligate parasites that closely interact with the host to subjugate cellular machineries to achieve replication. It is paramount for a virus to differentiate host factors, harnessing the friendly ones while destroying the enemies. An immediate early protein, ICP0, of herpes simplex virus (HSV), carries an E3 ubiquitin ligase activity and has the ability to recognize similar substrates with very different molecular mechanisms. This talk will focus on understanding the regulation of ICP0 substrate differentiation and its biological outcomes in HSV infection.
