Division of Continuing Education staff present at Kansas Workforce Summit
Sue C. Maes, dean of continuing education, and Jennifer Pfortmiller, site manager for K-State affiliate 2+2 Kansas programs, presented “Degree Completion as an Economic Development Strategy” at the 12th annual Kansas Workforce Summit, Jan. 23-24, in Topeka.
Maes and Pfortmiller presented the session along with Jackie Vietti, former president, Butler Community College; Suzanne Lane, chair, Local Education Adult Resource Network, or LEARN-Wichita; and Randy Myers, vice president of student services, Hutchinson Community College.
The presentation discussed why Kansas needed to educate the workforce for economic development, and how the south central area developed a model where businesses, community colleges, technical schools and universities joined together to provide these opportunities. K-State representatives highlighted the university’s statewide effort to offer higher education opportunities to residents wherever they live.
