NACADA's Charlie Nutt inspires international award
After traveling the world and dedicating his career to promoting academic advising as the cornerstone of student success, Charlie Nutt, executive director of NACADA: The Global Community of Academic Advising, has inspired an international award named in his honor.
The Charlie Nutt Award was established by two European associations, UK Advising and Tutoring, or UKAT, and the Netherlands' Landelijke Vereniging van Studieadviseurs, or LVSA. Announced during the associations' joint conference on March 31, the award is in "recognition of the magnificent work Charlie has done for advising globally and the emergence of a global community of academic advisors."
Nutt was stunned by the announcement.
"I cannot fully express my deep gratitude for this thoughtful and amazing award," Nutt said. "I am very proud of the work that NACADA and the board of directors have undertaken to promote and expand opportunities for professional development, research and networking in the field of academic advising and student success across the globe. Thank you from my heart to Oscar van den Wijngaard, David Grey, and the UKAT and LVSA leadership for this honor."
It was especially meaningful to Nutt when the name of the recipient was announced. The inaugural Charlie Nutt Award was presented to Gavin Farber, academic advisor in the Fox School of Business at Temple University, because he "exemplifies the purpose of the award in promoting and supporting international collaboration."
"I am so proud of Gavin and am honored that he was selected," Nutt said. "He has made many international contributions through advisor mentoring, connecting advisors around the world and contributions to UKAT. Gavin is definitely impacting our field globally."
